ABOUT US

STTA aims to drive access to tennis to all ages and abilities in the local community. We invest our resources into building relationships with schools, the council and the local community, encouraging everyone to keep active and improve their physical and mental health. Not only do we provide a friendly, social atmosphere on the courts and clubhouse, we also have a competitive environment for more regular players.
STTA is an established tennis academy that opened in 2020 which focuses on bringing tennis to as many people as possible in the local area. STTA currently operates at two locations: a three-court tennis club based at Martin Dene LTC (“Club”) in Bexleyheath and a four-court tennis club located at Bexleyheath Tennis Club in Welling.

We have a team of highly experienced and LTA Accredited coaches at the Sophia Thomas Tennis Academy.
SOPHIA THOMAS
Sophia is the founder and owner of STTA which opened in 2020. Sophia has over 21 years of playing experience and over 11 years in coaching. Sophia first started tennis at Martin Dene LTC when she was 5 years old and immediately loved the sport. Sophia reached UK number 2 in U16s and U18s and attended the University of Arizona in 2015 on a full scholarship as a student athlete
Sophia has trained in many regions across the world including: Spain; America; Hawaii; Japan and Cyprus. Her coaching method integrates the different types of coaching she received from the regions into one new method of coaching. On returning to the UK, Sophia coached at
Hollybush Tennis Centre, Bromley Tennis Academy and the National Tennis Centre. Making a full circle back to her roots, she founded the STTA to bring performance tennis to the local community.

Jamie has been working at STTA since 2021 to focus on teaching children and adults who are new to the game. He started tennis at Martin Dene LTC in 2002 as a junior player and loved watching Agassi and Hewitt in the Grand Slams. After Covid19, he wanted to return to Martin Dene LTC to work with Sophia (they trained together from 2003-2006) and to make a full circle in tennis, just as Sophia did! Jamie teaches the fundamentals of tennis and loves working with
different characters and seeing them develop over time.
